I completed Shantae Risky's Revenge!

Great game this! I played the first Shantae recently too so I can compare them.

Generally the sequel has a lot of technical improvements over the GBC version in almost every way except for the save system. In the GBC game you could continue with your status when you got a game over where as with this one you have to restart back at the last save point with all progress lost since you last saved. This forces you to save more often.

The music is amazing. Most are remixed tracks from the GBC game but there's a few outstanding ones like the Scuttle Town music. It's very impressive and you really feel like you're in a busy Arabian Nights themed town.

I don't care much for the dialogue or about the fact that Shantae is a half genie. Wonder Boy never spoke — I see Shantae as being like Wonder Boy III: The Dragon's Trap — but at least you can skip the dialogue.

This sequel isn't as long or as difficult as the first game but it still achieves the high fun factor, which is the most important thing.

One nitpicky thing but it's something that really irks me and that is one of her expressions during the cutscenes, namely the sarky 'tudey raised eyebrow one. It's yucky and it's nothing like her other cute vivacious expressions. It's like some bored Garfield expression. She has an expression like this in the last game but she wears it with a bit of sass and banter and... well it's like I was saying, more vivacious!

One or two things I'm eyeing up on the 3DS eshop

There's one called Aura Aura Climber. It's by one of Nintendo's studios and it has a really nice logo. I love the theme of constantly climbing until you're reaching the heavens. It looks fun and arcadey too.

There's another one called Pic Dun where you're going through these really old RPG style first person maze dungeons and as you complete it the dungeon map makes up a solved Picross puzzle. I think that's how it works. I'm not entirely sure how you'd get fun out of it or if it's just a novelty kind of thing.

I've already bought Shantae :)

Shantae is out on European DSiWare today!

I'd get this immediately but I don't have a DSi and I'm going to wait for the 3DS first since that's coming out very shortly. There may be a lot of other fans with the same idea as me too so I hope sales won't be too bad!

Shantae is finally coming to Ireland!!!

Wow! It's been a long time since I used the Shantae tag! Anyway it's official, Shantae as Wayforward put it is coming to PAL players even though that has nothing to do with handhelds!

I guess that means I have to get a DSi or its larger version... Or should I wait for a 3DS? I'm in a pickle!

Anyway, it's out next Friday!

Looking forward to Shantae: Risky's Revenge, Promotional e-mails from Wayforward

Some time ago I joined this mailing list from Wayforward Technologies that promised to give details about their upcoming Shantae: Risky's Revenge for DSiWare. Over the past week or two I've gotten three of them.
Here's the first one with an American release date of 4th of October 2010 (which of course to us Irish looks like the 10th of April but isn't!). It got RMC at Gonintendo.com really excited. I want it to be released on the European DSiWare too! Make it happen Wayforward!
Here's the second one. It offers a free prize to people who have purchased Wayforward's previous game Mighty Flip Champs on DSiWare. Wonder what it is? Well Wayforward, bring Shantae to Europe and let us find out! You've already released Mighty Flip Champs here so there you go! Half the battle won!
Here's the third one. It's a fun thing done for free out of love which is a twitter account set up with each little entry covering bit by bit of Shantae's first adventure for the Game Boy Colour. Well... by love I mean good PR but done in a way that seems like it's done out of love and doesn't hurt or inconvenience anybody.

Please bring the game to Europe guys!!!
